Board of Directors
Deena Jones Board President
Deena Jones is a former student and teacher in Prince William County. She has a BA in Elementary Education and a MEd with a focus on Initiatives in Educational Transformation. Deena taught Kindergarten and 1st grade during her 7 years as a teacher for PWC Schools. She found the innate curiosity of her students infectious and loved the challenge of integrating this attribute into her classroom learning environment. Deena took some time away from teaching to stay at home with her two young daughters. Together they traveled to many children's museums. Deena loved how the curiosity and imagination of her children was fostered, celebrated, and cultivated into experiential learning. She knows that PWC needs a children's museum where our children and students can dream, explore, and create through the most natural activity of childhood, play.
Lisa Plummer Vice President and Secretary
Lisa Plummer brings a dual background in Science and Education to the museum. After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Lisa acquired hands-on experience working in a Biotechnology laboratory. To allow her to share her passion for science with children, she returned to school to earn a Master’s degree in Science Education. After several years of leading her students through inquiry-based curriculum, Lisa embarked on a new journey as a mother. She has taken an active role in her children’s school by serving as the PTO Secretary, as well as the Chair of the Principal’s Advisory Comimttee. Lisa’s “playtime” usually involves scrapbooking, jogging, dancing in the living room, or snuggling up with a good book! She is delighted to have the opportunity to combine her passions and skill-sets to help create a play-based educational experience at Discovery Junction Children’s Museum.
Cara Berger brings over 15 years of event planning experience to the museum. She spent five years planning events for a United States Senator and the national headquarters of the American Red Cross before starting her own wedding and event planning business. In that capacity, she has planned over 100 weddings with budgets ranging from $20,000 to $500,000 and in locations ranging from the mountains of North Carolina to the lofts of New York City. In addition to staying home with her two young children, Cara currently manages the Franciscan Monastery’s beautiful event space in Washington, DC. She is proud to combine her passions for children, community, and events into bringing Discovery Junction Children’s Museum to life.
